The Sea Level has risen 50 feet due to substantial glaciers melting from global warming and nuclear war. Elevated sea walls have been built around most of the coastal cities of United Earth including New York City. With the exception of the damage caused by the Alien Probe seeking communication with humpback whales during 2286, there has been little to no need for extensive repair to the sea walls.
